Charlie confessed to a British priest about having "relations" with girls he didn't know. The priest told Charlie that giving into temptations was a matter of choice, and that it was this choice that we experience throughout our lives. This sentiment would later be echoed on the island, with Charlie saying that he has "made his choice" when he burns the last of his heroin stash (in other words, his temptation/addiction).
