Dark Territory

The Dark Territory is an area of the Island named by Danielle Rousseau. The original French name of the region is "Territoire Foncé"; Shannon translated this name as "Dark Territory". The name of the area was first mentioned by Sayid in "Numbers".

Overview
The most significant landmark of the Dark Territory is the Black Rock. The Monster is sometimes active in the region; it attacked the survivors during their mission to retrieve dynamite from the Black Rock.("Exodus, Part 2") Due to the statement "Primary nexus of Cerebus related activity" being in close proximity to the Black Rock on the Blast Door Map, it can be inferred that the monster is highly active in this region--probably translating into the name "Dark Territory."
The Dark Territory and Rousseau
According to Rousseau, the Dark Territory is where she and her team encountered the Others, and it is also where she claimed members of the team became infected. One member of Rousseau's team, Montand, somehow lost his arm in the Dark Territory.
The Dark Territory and the Losties
The survivors of Flight 815 are known to have visited the Dark Territory on two occasions. The size and boundaries of the Dark Territory are unknown, so it is impossible to determine whether the survivors passed through the region on any other occasions.
