Isabel
Main Discussion
Theories may be removed if ...
  1. Stated as questions or possibilities (avoid question marks, "Maybe", "I think", etc).
  2. More appropriate for another article.
  3. Illogical or previously disproven.
  4. Proven by canon source, and moved to main article.
  5. Speculative and lacking any evidence to support arguments.
  6. Responding to another theory (use discussion page instead).
  • This does not include responses that can stand alone as its own theory.
  • Usage of an indented bullet does not imply the statement is a response.

See the Lostpedia theory policy for more details.

Identity

  • Isabel is really Karen DeGroot.
  • Isabel is really the monster, the true sheriff of the others who "walks among us but is not one of us.".
  • Isabel lives on the Hydra Island. That's why we havent seen her for a while.
  • As one of the meanings of the name "Isabel" is "Daughter of Ba'al" and the name "Ba'al" itself means "lord" or "possesser", the choice of her name might refer to her lineage. Isabel might be descended from prominent individuals from the Others' past for example.
    • This descendant could be Jacob, as he is certainly an important individual in the Others' hierarchy.
  • It is possible that Isabel is Ben's sister, due to a close age, facial bone structure (or, if you like, good casting), and the same basic appearance of similar anglo heritage (they're not wildly different looks, like nordic vs. mediterranean).
    • Dismissed by Ben's flashback.
  • Isabel could be the girl on the Geronimo Jackson cover.
  • There was a Brazilian princess by the name Isabel. She was the one who signed the Law establishing the total abolition of slavery in there. Maybe this has something to do with Jack being locked/released. [[1]]
  • The fact the Others system may be an early attempt to help carve out an ideal, future utopian society, but the fact Isabel handles Juliet's case in such a routine manner suggests it isn't the first time she's been called upon to handle such incidents. Of course, it isn't uncommon for developing societies to have some form of police force operating, but to have such a seemingly "sophisticated" investigatory and sentencing procedure is definitely interesting.
  • Isabel may not be a sheriff at all, and the entire 'trial of Juliet' was created purely to con Jack into providing aftercare for Ben following his operation. The mark Juliet was subsequently branded with may therefore actually be a symbol of honour rather than a brand of punishment.

Death

  • Perhaps the announcement she is dead was made in error. The other two mentioned in the quote from the producer were clearly killed, while Isabel was not seen at all during the attack by the Others.
  • She was killed in the submarine explosion ("The Man from Tallahassee") either helping Locke or because she was on board.
  • As revenge for being branded, Juliet poisoned Isabel before leaving with Jack for the submarine. Juliet was planning on leaving the island, so there would be no consequence for this action, but unfortunately the submarine was destroyed. As punishment for killing Isabel and Danny, Ben sent Juliet undercover to spy on the losties.
