Fate following explosion of the Kahana

  • Jin is killed in the explosion of the Kahana, or drowns shortly afterwards.
    • Once rescued by Penny, Sun was able to recover Jin's body from the freighter wreckage. She had it buried, in secret, at the grave she visits with Hurley, a grave that she claims is empty to rest of the world.
    • Daniel Dae Kim was arrested for drunk driving. If Ana-Lucia and Libby are any indication of this behavior, Jin may not make it to Season 5.
  • Jin survived, and was rescued by Daniel Faraday in the Zodiac.
    • Knowing the explosion was imminent, Jin dove overboard. It was explicitly shown that, being low on fuel, the chopper did not do a close inspection of the wreckage as Sun requested.
    • The Zodiac is built to hold six people and that there are four red shirts and Faraday. Which means it is likely they will rescue Jin.
    • He is alive and off the Island.
      • He refrains from contacting Sun because he knows doing so would put both of them in danger.
      • He has contacted Sun; they are working together on Sun's plans for Paik Heavy Industries.
        • If this is the case, why is Sun so emotional at his grave site?
          • Because even if he's not dead, he's still far from her (and their child), with very little hope of ever being reunited again.
    • Being further from the Island than the helicopter but lower, they were moved with the Island.
    • At Comic Con 2008, Darlton have confirmed that Jin will be back for Season 5, in some form.
  • Jin survives the explosion and is picked up by Daniel Faraday , and they both find their way to the Island . The island has a magnet affect holding or drawing things towards it . Before the explosion Jin jumped overboard , himself and Farady being caught in the Islands orbit where able to survive and thus being brought through time and space , however Jin is not allowed to leave the island or to contact the outside world , this stops him from telling Sun that he is still alive.
  • Jin is alive and was recovered by Widmore, possibly against his will. Widmore could be using this as a strategic move against Sun and/or Ben to find the island.
  • The impact of the explosion knocked Jin out, causing him to sink ito the water, eventually drifting close enough to theIsland to move with it, meaning that when the Island reaches it's new location, Jin will wash up on the shore, which will set up his story arc for Season 5.
  • Jin's future on LOST may be changed now due to Daniel Dae Kim's DUI. Producers may decide not to bring him back alive.

Responsibility of his death

  • Sun also blames Ben for the death of Jin.
    • She does not appear to trust Michael still, believing he is working for Ben.
    • She desires to collude with Charles Widmore because she's seeking revenge.
  • Sun presumably blames Jack.
    • Probably as Jack says that Sun blames me for...
  • Sun blames Kate: Kate would not let Sun leave to find Jin. Kate herself did not get Jin like she said she would.
  • Sun blames Jack: Jack stopped Kate from getting Jin. Jack told Frank not to go lower and search for Jin.
  • Sun blames Frank: Frank refused to go lower and search for Jin. This would explain her kryptic remark to Mr. Widmore.
  • Sun blames Desmond: Desmond was the only person to escape the bomb room alive, leaving both Jin and Michael to die. This would explain her cryptic remark to Mr. Widmore.
  • Sun blames Ben: Ben killed Keamy and was the cause of the freighter's destruction. Sun is aware that Ben left the island and this is her kryptic remark to Mr. Widmore.
    • Rebutle: Sun would have no idea Ben killed Keamy, or Keamy was strapped to the bomb. At this juncture, Sun has no idea why the bomb exploded.
      • What if Jeremy Bentham told her what happened? he supposedly visited all of them.
  • Sun blames Keamy: Keamy set up the bomb and his death triggered it. (If so, then Sun cannot take revenge on a dead man.)
    • Rebutle: Sun never met Keamy or knew he was strapped to the bomb.
      • Again, it's very possible that Bentham/Locke told her what happened.
  • Sun blames Mr. Widmore: Mr. Widmore sent a freighter with an army and explosives to the island. Sun's kryptic remark is used specifically to peak his interest and lure him in, so she can get revenge on him.
  • Sun blames herself: If she had not been pregnant, Jin would not have rushed to the freighter and they would both be on the island, alive.

Work for Mr. Paik

  • Jin has performed more violent acts than have been shown so far, and is better versed in firearms than originally thought. His knowledge of a Glock pistol surprises Sayid. His one year of training he alluded to in a flashback may have covered this. Sun intervenes in his initial confrontation with Michael claiming that she was protecting him from what Jin might do to him.
    • Jin could have learned his his gun skills in the army as national service isn't optional in South Korea.
  • At the 2007 Emmy Lost Panel discussion hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, all of the actors playing characters who have killed someone in the past were asked to raise their hands. When Daniel Dae Kim didn't raise his hand, Carlton Cuse says, "Daniel, you should probably raise your hand also." [1]
    • Jin is probably more accomplished in the killing arts than he lets on. He was drafted into the Korean Army, served his term, and tried to escape his peasant roots. He knows how to kill, but has no wish to do so. He accepted his position to destroy the enemy in "Through the Looking Glass" but still never killed anybody, even in wartime. He did try, but his peaceful nature might have impacted his judgment. To his surprise, Sun is willing to kill.
    • Killed someone in the past, maybe during his time in the army, but was so traumatised by it that he cannot bear to do it again. When he has been in a situation where he has been asked to kill, the memory of this return.

Urashima Taro

  • Jin is a fisherman that ends up in a place seemingly off-world and off-time. The oceanian legend of Taro tells the story of a fisherman ending up in the Dragon's underwater palace, which is also in a different time flow continuum. When he comes back to his village, centuries have passed and all he has is a box that he's been told not to open except if he wanted to leave. He opens the box and dies. It contained it's real age/soul, depending on which version. This story was made recently popular among anime audience through Urusei Yatsura, from the Lamu series, directed by Mamoru Oshii.
  • The legend starts when Taro rescues a turtle and is then granted his voyage. The turtle his also a recurring myth in Oceania, notably in Hawaï. The myth is strongly cognate to the one of Mu, a phantom island who is supposed to have collapsed into the sea. Mau'i Nui might have been this island and nowadays, Mau'i is one the four major islands in Hawaï.
  • Hydra is the name of a legendary water dragon with several heads that endlessly grow back if cut, until they are all cut at the same time.

Parentage

  • Jin's biological father is Sam Austen. During his military career, Austen was stationed in Korea. As we are fairly certain Jin was not raised by his biological father, we might surmise that Sam Austen visited a prostitute, thereby tying Jin/Sun into the complex family web already in play.
    • Jin seems to be 100% Korean (instead of half white)
  • His Father is Mr.Paik.
    • It does not make sence. Jin and Sun has a baby, and Paik never disaproved of their marriage that way, he disliked him because he was poor. Second, Jin's mother would have known, Sun's family is famous and she is informed of Jin's family and life.
