Mr. Ford was the father of James "Sawyer" Ford and the husband of Mary Ford. He killed Mary and himself after they were both conned by Anthony Cooper, under the alias 'Tom Sawyer', thus where James Ford got his namesake. Mary engaged in adultery thereby facilitating their being robbed by Mr. Ford, thus prompting his rage.
