Theories may be removed if ...
  1. Stated as questions or possibilities (avoid question marks, "Maybe", "I think", etc).
  2. More appropriate for another article.
  3. Illogical or previously disproven.
  4. Proven by canon source, and moved to main article.
  5. Speculative and lacking any evidence to support arguments.
  6. Responding to another theory (use discussion page instead).
  • This does not include responses that can stand alone as its own theory.
  • Usage of an indented bullet does not imply the statement is a response.

See the Lostpedia theory policy for more details.

Identity

  • Is somehow Libby via time travel.
  • Is Annie (Ben's young "love") all grown up.
    • At some point after the purge, she was taken from the island, and has aged more quickly off the island (explaining her now being ~30 years older than Ben.
  • Is a figment of Desmond's imagination, like Dave was with Hurley.
    • Unlikely, as she appears with Brother Campbell in a photo on his desk.
      • However, the photo could be the basis for her as an imaginary person.
  • Is a projection of the Island, much as Yemi was and it is (or some part of it) trying to persuade Desmond to stop saving Charlie.
    • This is very plausible as it has already been shown the Island can use people's pasts' to manipulate them.
      • However, in a live podcast, Carlton Cuse and Daemon Lindelof admitted that Desmond really travelled back in time so the possibility of this is, if any, none.
  • Is an aged Penelope from the future.
    • This is plausible. Her vocie, height, eye color and general apperance make her a likley candidate for an aged Penny. A Penelope from the future could also have great knowledge of Desmonds faith and role on the island.
  • Is one of The Others since they signify to know everything from history to present like Juliet, Jack, Michael, and possibly Desmond. Remember, we do not know if the Others know Desmond is on the island as he is possibly the only unknown individual.
  • Is Brother Campbell's mother or sister.
  • She bares a striking resemblence to Isabel (The Sheriff), is she an older Isabel in the future?
  • She is a normal person, poseseed by the "course correction" mechanism of the universe.
  • Is Karen DeGroot. Brother Campbell is Gerald DeGroot.

General

  • Has been on the Island before.
    • She may have been involved in the Incident, and gained her abilities as a result.
    • Ms. Hawking was someone who was pressing the button in the Swan station before Desmond, Kelvin, and Radzinsky. She somehow found a way to escape from the island.
  • Has powers of precognition similar to Desmond's. She knows people's destinies, which is why she knows Desmond's. She is a real person which means Desmond did not live a flashback, he actually went back. Back on the Island, Desmond performs the same function with Charlie.
    • Is someone who has been shifted out of time, just like Desmond, and has experienced her life many times.
      • She may have been involved in the Incident, and gained her abilities as a result.
    • She is trying to persuade Desmond to push the button and turn the key to avoid the end of the world and having to go to the island herself.
  • Is on the island. Usually we suspect that there is some sort of supernatural vision in each of these characters. But this does not apply to Desmond. Ms. Hawking is real and there is a rational explanation as to why she told Desmond to go to the island. She is probably a member of the Dharma Initiative and/or an Other.
  • Her brooch shows that she is able to escape time and is not stuck with time going forwards / backwards.
  • Is almost definitely working for Dharma (and/or whatever corporate/government parent organization controls the island today), rigging Desmond's future (along with other islanders' situations) to get them on to the island through psychological manipulation. She is not a time-traveler. Whoever these people are, they make people think they experience sci-fi through fancy tricks to direct their paths toward their island prison (a.k.a. twisted authority-abusing rehabilitation center).
    • Completely and totally plausible, if not the truth! If you think about it, Charles Widmore is probably the most powerful man in London, and Desmond has an eye on his daughter. Why wouldn't he research him/keep an eye on him? Or this organization could even be the Others, for that matter. Since we already know that the Island has some sort of power to show who's "special" or not, they could have tapped into the Island to figure out who was supposed to push the button next. When the Others/Widmore researched Desmond, they knew the course that was going to lead him to the island, so they made sure that nothing would change it, like proposing to Penny. This could mean they put people in this jewelery shop in London to persuade him from not buying the ring. It has already been shown that the Others can manipulate people's lives and know about their life and death situation (Like Juliet's husband in Not in Portland or Michael in Meet Kevin Johnson), so they could have known that the one pedestrian was going to die, just like they knew Michael wouldn't be able to kill himself, even off the island.
  • Ms. Hawking is actually a "godlike" entity, telling Desmond about his destiny that is "unchangeble."
    • The fact that her picture is seen at the monastery can be proof of her connection with "god."
  • Is someone who has been to the island or someone whose goal was to get Desmond to the island. She either traveled through time to speak to Brother Campbell or just randomly appeared there to tell him Desmond had another path to follow. She also appeared the same way to Desmond to prevent him from changing his past. An interesting note to support the time-travel theory is that she is wearing the same clothing in the picture and in Desmond's past.
  • Her constant is Brother Campbell.
  • She may have known of Daniel Faraday and his invention for time travel at Oxford.
