Talk:Capsule dump

There's also an article called The Logbook Dump.--Bremerton 20:45, 24 May 2006 (PDT)

  • Yeah, I wrote/created that one, minutes ago. The Capsule Dump is a better name, since not every capsule could contain a logbook. --Squashua 20:52, 24 May 2006 (PDT)

it seems as if the notebook tast was just another mindless test to be watched, because no one is reading these and they are shot out into the middle of nowhere

What was the segment that Kate read out loud? Does anyone remember? I heard "4:15, plays ping pong, what is this?" And Sawyer finds Locke's map. I assume that, if/when Sawyer is freed from the Others, he'll appropriate the notebooks as new reading material.  ;) --Amberjet11 09:43, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

  • Kate reads "0400: S.R. moves ping-pong table again. 0415: Takes a shower." and asks then "What is this?" I propose to delete the section about time travel: "There is an element of time travel involved. When Kate reads from the notebook, she says "subject moves the ping pong table." Later on in the episode we see Desmond move the ping pong table when looking for the book with the key in it." She does not read "subject" but "S.R." and because we know that Inman's partner in the hatch was named Radzinsky "S.R." may refer to S. Radzinsky. --Litvak 17:13, 5 Dec 2007 (GMT)

Capsule Waste

  • It seems suspicious that Dharma would go to the unnecessary expense of just dumping the capsules instead of reusing them.
  • It also seems suspicious that they would dump them in a location where they could be found by "test subjects."
    • Moot point; It's fairly obvious that the range of motion/travel for "test subjects" is quite limited and they would never be allowed access to this remote area. --!!!!
    • Maybe , but if The Pearl is just a pschological experiment , the whole vaccum tube system is a gigantic waste of materials and energy. There may be more to it in the future but I think the main reason for the dump was to hit home the idea that Locke's assumptions about The Swan were questionable.
    • It seems to me far less likely that the "dump" was intentional by Dharma. Why wouldn't they just launch the notebooks to an incinerator? It's far more likely that the stranded logbooks are post-fall of Dharma!!!

Location Discovery

  • It seems suspicious that The Others would have Michael lead the group of survivors near this area where they would see this dump unless they (The Others) wanted them to see it for some reason.
    • It could also be that they were trying to get a plot point across -- that the tube went nowhere.
      • Of course, none present knew anything at all about the tube's origins.
        • It also may be that it was a landmark that both Michael and the others could easily find, rather than having Michael meet them in some random location that would be less easily found.

In my opinion it was just an interessting place which the Others thought would distract them and not notice their approach so they could attack them easier. --Princess Dharma (banned) 09:55, 20 February 2007 (PST)

Too Many Tubes

There are seemingly too many tubes at this location only originating from The Pearl's three-week observation project.

  • Depends on how many three-week observation projects were undergone at the Pearl location; observers were replaced. Likely many different sets of observers were stationed at The Pearl for three-week periods.
  • It seems possible that not only tubes from The Pearl has ended up at this location. There might be other stations on the island from where some of the tubes were sent.

Hills & Valleys

  • It has been suggested that the uneven pile of capsules indicates there are more stations or it's a goof.
I think someone comes around every now and then and pushes the pile around to make more room. Dmuk § 02:33, 26 May 2006 (PDT)
  • Is it possible that someone once came by to collect the capsules, and that after The Incident there wasn't anyone left to take care of that task?

    • Maybe that was Roger's job.--Kgs 13:44, 28 February 2008 (PST)

Rewrite

  • Please get rid of fluff, and convert bullets to prose. Much of this information is largely irrelevant, mainly because the capsule dump is only a minor plot device to illustrate a point, and may never be seen again. Even if it is seen again, it will again be a minor plot device, and not a significant pivoting point of the overaching Lost storyline. Therefore feel free to clean house with a heavy hand, IMHO. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T02:20, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

Rename

Should be Capsule dump. --SilvaStorm
