Talk:Hurley Bird
From Lostpedia
I moved the "might not be a joke" section into Theories. It makes no sense to include nonfactual speculation in the main section, especially when the podcast makes it pretty clear that this WAS a joke. --PandoraX 15:08, 3 June 2006 (PDT)

monster
Best bet that this was the monster that was supposedly seen in Live Together, Die Alone. --djumbrosia 15:36, 3, June 2006
Where did Hurley get his nickname?
if the bird DID say Hurley's name, it could be they were both named and nicknamed after the same thing! unlikey, i know, but is there any evidence linking any of the corporations with Hurley or his family...?
- As far as I remember, Hurley said he was named after 'hurling' up too much food he'd eaten. So nah, sorry, that doesn't make too much sense to me, as it hasn't been called 'the hurley bird' by anyone in canon. --Andyroo316 11:44, 15 September 2006 (PDT)
- When did Hurley say this? --Amberjet11 14:40, 2 November 2006 (PST)
- Yes, I don't remember that either. I recall him sort of dodging the question when asked about the origin of his name (I forget by whom).--Invertebrat 13:20, 7 November 2006 (PST)
- Hurley made a point of not revealing to Jack where he got his nickname in Raised by Another, and that is the only time the subject ever came up. Besides, the "Hurley Bird" got its nickname, because it sounds like it's saying "Hurley". I can't understand why anyone would think that its nickname shared an origin with Hugo's. --JoserKyind 13:23, 7 November 2006 (PST)

Even the best cowboys have daddy issues
Right before Jack's fight with Ethan in "All the best cowboys have daddy issues" we hear the sound of a bird (or something). Jack asks Kate "didn't you hear her?" This could be the same bird.
- Orrr maybe it was just done to achieve dramatic effect - "Did you hear something?" - "...no?" - "Damn, I wish you'd said yes because now I'm in a fight and it was obvious what I heard was the person walking up to attack me": sure that last part wasn't said but those three basic steps follow each other in the build-up to most fight sequences. --Andyroo316 11:44, 15 September 2006 (PDT)
- I'm pretty sure the moment being referred to is when Jack hears a girl, presumably Claire, screaming. --JoserKyind 16:34, 7 November 2006 (PST)
Rename
I really do not see how anyone can absolutely claim that this is an actual bird. I think it would be better classified as a creature, or some other word. While it might appear to be a bird, and very well might turn out to be a bird, this is not an actual fact as of yet. Magnoliasouth 04:52, 9 October 2006 (PDT)

In the January 9, 2006 Podcast at about 20 minutes into the podcast, Damon and Carlton make reference to the bird. They call it the "Hurley Bird" because it sounds like it's screeching "Hurley!" In the bird's appearance in Live Together, Die Alone, Hurley asks if the bird was saying his name. This appears to be more of a Podcast inside joke than anything informative about "talking birds" on the island. | ” |
- It's also a funny name :) -Chris[dt7] 04:55, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
- You're right, it is a funny name, and I'm aware of the joke, but as is pointed out, it is a joke. I think they're poking fun at the discussions about it. Still, you don't think it would better serve a purpose by being renamed? Just curious. Magnoliasouth 05:03, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
- What would you suggest? -Chris[dt7] 05:11, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
- Why rename it? Everyone knows it as the Hurley Bird. Thats the fans, the creators, the producers and the wider lost community. There is no reason to change the name. Everyone calls it the Hurley bird, and I can't see any SysOp thinking its right to change it -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 05:14, 9 October 2006 (PDT)

I moved this..
Joke or not?
- In the January 9, 2006 Podcast about 20 minutes in, Damon and Carlton make reference to the bird. They call it the "Hurley Bird" because it sounds like it's screeching "Hurley!"
- On the Season 1 DVD subtitles, it captions the bird as screaching "Hurley"
On this podcast they mention that the bird is actually part of the show, so that means that it isn't an inside joke.
Plus that "Joke or Not?" title doesn't seem like it belongs in the Main Article, as the main article is about facts and not about pondering if it's a joke or not.--Magnet 17:40, 4 May 2007 (PDT)
Fair enough, but I would suggest that the subtitling info is worth keeping on the main article as this is useful canon information.--TechNic|talk|conts 17:50, 4 May 2007 (PDT)
