Admiral?
I see that the article has been "objectified" :-) Would the Admiral part of the article deserve "Personification" as an unseen flashback character? --Jackdavinci 06:58, 15 February 2007 (PST)
- Hmm, maybe if the Admiral's name comes up again, it would be significant and worthy of a character article. Otherwise, it's just a plot device for the whiskey. Bellemichelle 07:19, 15 February 2007 (PST)
- Maybe he sailed the Black Rock at some point. --Squashua 10:56, 15 February 2007 (PST)
I'm guessing that the name of the character in the telefilm may itself have been an homage to director Wallace McCutcheon (Sr.) who directed the first film inspired from 20000 Leagues Under the Sea in 1905 (18 min.). -- Cheers 13:34, 15 February 2007 (PST)
Cost?
Someone please add the actual cost of a swallow of this whiskey. Is it really that expensive or is Widmore just a complete ass? --Squashua 09:02, 15 February 2007 (PST)
- This particular brand of whisky is fictional. Generally scotches are less than 20 years old, and sell for under $100 US. Slighty rarer ones can go for around $600. So 60 years is farly rare and expensive. The World Record selling price was for a 60 Year Old Macallan at auction for £ 12,100 in 1996. --Jackdavinci
- I think it's worth noting an iteration of the above response on the main article. --Squashua 10:57, 15 February 2007 (PST)
- When Desmond was drowning his sorrows in the pub after splitting with Penelope, he looked at the spirits behind the bar and I am sure he sees a bottle of the whisky in question tucked behind them, which makes him grin. This suggests that it probably isn't hugely expensive as it otherwise would have been in a much more prominent place (or locked away). I suspect Widmore is just being a complete ass as you suggest. Stu1984 09:33, 19 February 2007 (PST)
- That's possible. I checked and the scotch at the pub is the same year (60 year old). Or could just be an oversight.
- Some regular pub wouldn't serve a 60yo scotch. I think it's just a story device to get the point across. So IMHO you cannot conclude that this scotch isn't too expensive only because it's displayed in a pub. -- MacCutcheon talk contrib 15:08, 9 February 2008 (PST)
--Jackdavinci 11:03, 19 February 2007 (PST)
- Someone started a thread about this elsewhere [1]. There's various anecdotes of Scotches in the range of $100 to $400 to $4000 to $9000 per bottle. And stories of single measures costing $75 to $700 to $3000.--Jackdavinci 15:42, 19 February 2007 (PST)
"Saving the World"
"Also, now that he has proved his value by turning the key and saving the world, he is worthy enough to drink this kind of whisky."
- How do we know that his actions "saved the world"? This should be removed. --Xbenlinusx 16:22, 1 March 2008 (PST)
- Agreed, I'll remove it. -- MacCutcheon talk contrib 16:26, 1 March 2008 (PST)
Props for Sale?
I am a bottle collector and I would LOVE to have this whiskey bottle in my collection. Does any know if that will ever be possible and if so, how and where can I go to get one?
Rename
- Rename: To avoid confusion with Anderson MacCutcheon. Make the maccutcheon page a disambig. -- Sam T C 19:42, 30 July 2008 (PDT)
- Rename: K but ensure its the right spelling. For Scotch, I think its whisky and for Irish I think its whiskey. So it would be the Scottish spelling in this case. --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:08, 31 July 2008 (PDT)
