Template talk:Ep
From Lostpedia
I added a new feature so that if you hover over the links created by this template, it will give you the episode title, and episode number. I tested this in Firefox and IE. --Dagg 14:22, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- really cool, man, really cool. Works for me here. --Marik7772003 14:33, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- Unfortunately, I had to remove this due to technical issues: User talk:Admin#Lots of broken pages. I'd love to re-add it sometime if there is a better more efficient way.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 16:34, 26 January 2007 (PST)

Exodus Part 3
Some countries aired Exodus Part 2 in 2 parts. The second of the 2 was named Exodus Part 3. Would it be possible to add Exodus Part 3 to this list, have it link to Exodus Part 2. Thanks--Mr.Leaf 16:10, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- Sure, would you like {{ep|1x25}} to display the same as {{ep|1x24}} ? (BTW, I've seen Exodus Part 3 referenced on this site, and I wondered where it came from, thanks :))--Dagg 16:51, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- Ya, that works fine, its just that people are going to write "Exodus: Part 3" and they really mean "Exodus Part 2". So displaying the same as {{ep|2x24}} is fine. Thanks again--Mr.Leaf 17:05, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- No problem, this is done.--Dagg 17:10, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- Sorry about this, but error on my part. When you put in {{ep|1x25}} it needs to read Exodus: Part 3 and redirect to Exodus: Part 2. Sorry about the confusion. There is a redirect from Exodus: Part 3 to Exodus: Part 2 if you need to use it. So to clear things up:
- No problem, this is done.--Dagg 17:10, 12 January 2007 (PST)
If I write: {{ep|1x25}} It should read: "Exodus: Part 3" And link to "Exodus: Part 2" As for the text when hovering you mouse over it leave it the way it is.
Sorry about the confusion. If you have any questions feel free to ask. --Mr.Leaf 17:27, 12 January 2007 (PST)
- No problem, here ya go: "Exodus, Part 3".--Dagg 20:03, 12 January 2007 (PST)
Ep number show up in template?
- I was wondering if we could have the episode number show up in the template, so that "Deus Ex Machina", for example, might show up with a small ",1x19" also. I've found that sometimes it's nice to have the reminder of episode chronology when adding crossrefs to articles, for instance. I wanted to get feedback on this, though, because I don't know if it would look too "busy" with that... maybe if it were small, grayed out font? --PandoraX 03:32, 18 February 2007 (PST)
- It could work. I made some quick examples:
In front: (3x10) "Tricia Tanaka is Dead"
After: "Tricia Tanaka is Dead" (3x10)
Example, taken from Flashbacks (alternating between front and after):
- The episode (2x07) "The Other 48 Days" is the only episode thus far to not contain any flashbacks occuring before the crash - it follows the tailies from the crash until they reach Sayid and Shannon.
- The flashbacks in "Maternity Leave" (2x15) are signaled differently. Instead of a close-up of the character and the "whoosh" sound, Claire's flashbacks begin with sudden flashes of mental images as her memory is jogged. Additionally, her flashbacks are from her time on the Island, specifically during her kidnapping.
- The "flashbacks" in (2x22) "Three Minutes", while narratively similar, are not true flashbacks. They do not contain the "whoosh" sound, they are labeled with captions (like "Thirteen days earlier"), and they occur on the Island.
- Desmond's flashbacks in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" (3x08) were the first from a character who was not on board Flight 815. Desmond's reliving of the past in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" included was in the form of a "Déjà vu", which was unlike previous flashbacks, in that he began to have awareness of the fact that he had experienced many of the events previously.
I think that in some articles, it may become too clustered though. Plus, it would be awkward in some places, such as on the episode infobox on episode articles. >: 4 8 15 16 23 42 13:26, 1 March 2007 (PST)
"Live Together, Die Alone Part 2"
Could someone make it so that when you type {{ep|2x24}} you get "Live Together, Die Alone Part 2" rather than just, "Live Together, Die Alone"? This episode is divided into two parts in some countries, and seeing as how we already added "Exodus, Part 3" to the list, I think it's only fair that we do the same for this episode. –Nahald 11:31, 8 March 2007 (PST)
- Also, in some countries "Through the Looking Glass" is expected to be split into 2 parts. --Blueeagleislander 00:12, 19 May 2007 (PDT)
Alternative way to implement
I think it is time to rethink how this Template is implemented. The template is very large, and gives problems when it is called many times, such as on the Crimes page (scroll to the bottom, and notice that some of the crossref's are not working). This problem is likely to do with template limits. The rules for template limits have changed several times since Template:Ep was first created. Here is an alternative template implementation that may fix this issue:
<includeonly>"{{#if:{{{bold|}}}|'''}}[[{{Ep/{{{1|}}}}}]]{{#if:{{{bold|}}}|'''|{{{2|}}}}}"</includeonly><noinclude>{{protected}}<br />{{Ep/doc}}</noinclude>
The current switch statement would be changed to the bolded part above.
Unfortunately, this would require the creation of dozens of new Ep/* templates. For example:
- Template:Ep/1x01 would contain Pilot, Part 1.
- Template:Ep/1x02 would contain Pilot, Part 2.
- Template:Ep/1x03 would contain Tabula Rasa.
etc. I haven't tested this implementation, but I think it will fix the current problem. It should also scale better as more episodes are added for Season #4, etc.
Any thoughts?-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 11:13, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
- I think it is a worth a try at least. It looks to me like it would work. I can't (maybe other people can) tell just by looking at it whether or not it would fix the problems it causes (such as on the crimes page or when editing it slowing the whole wiki down) so we should at least give it a go. There's no harm in trying. We should IMO create a small one with say like 3 eps in someones subpages to test if it would work. -Mr.Leaf 11:29, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
Templates for 4x10-Enhanced and 4x11-Enhanced
ABC Medianet just released the press release for enhanced airings of "Something Nice Back Home" and "Cabin Fever". I want to add the release to the ABC Medianet page, but the templates for the enhanced versions of those two episodes don't seem to exist yet. Could somebody who knows how please add them? Thanks. :) Jimbo the tubby 14:27, 5 May 2008 (PDT)
