University of Michigan

The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (U-M or U of M) is a coeducational public research university in the US state of Michigan.
Both Karen DeGroot and Gerald DeGroot were doctoral candidates at the University when they established the DHARMA Initiative in 1970 with funding from the Hanso Foundation.

- During the DJ Dan podcast of 7/05, a listener by the name of Anthony called in to say that his grandmother had joined a cult called the "KARMA Imperative" while attending the University. According to Anthony, she was taken to an unknown location in the South Pacific in the early 70's (called the Flame or the Fire) and was never heard from again.
