THE INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE IS THE BEST I CAN PERSONALLY FIGURE, AND I'M TIRED OF REARRANGING IT FOR NOW. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO GET CONVERSATION TOWARD A RESOLUTION MOVING FORWARD. :) Update: Malachi had some suggestions I've now implemented (Thanks!) 05:36, 18 April 2008 (PDT)
I may have some minor tweaking to do, but I think this is basically where I want it. Please use the discussion page for any comments or suggestions, because I will lose my connections and won't be able to explain my thought process if anyone edits here and moves things around :)
Everyone seems to agree with the four separate timestamps showing Day 80 is correct. I attempt to outline here why 80 is correct, but the events that go on are more detailed than the LP timeline shows at the time I am writing this 01:08, 17 April 2008 (PDT) My notes are at the bottom, along with links to transcripts I edited to remove unneeded FB (for this purpose) and reordered where events were told out of sequence (like the Brig)
So undisputed:
Day 80
- Mikhail Bakunin tells Kate, Sayid and Locke why they are not on the list, and suggests knowledge that Locke was paralysed. Locke pushes Bakunin into the sonic barrier, apparently killing him. Sayid finds the C4 explosive in Locke's bag.
- MIKHAIL: Oh yes, but two weeks ago, our underwater beacon stopped emitting its locater signal. There was an event, an electromagnetic pulse. ("Live Together, Die Alone")
- Claire and Charlie attach a message to the tag on a migrating seabird. Claire learns about Desmond foreseeing Charlie's death.
- CHARLIE (reading the letter): "We have survived on this island for 80 days".
- Sayid, Locke, Kate and Rousseau reach The Barracks, where they see Jack living with the Others and taking care of Ben.
Now, to the events which followed these.
"The Brig" is the only episode giving us a very set timeline to follow; this timeline assumes The Brig is correct for Island-time until told otherwise.
The separators should not be taken as exact division of midnight for a new day, but rather indicators of "days ago" for the purpose of clarity in resolving the issues with the timeline.
Dark events would need to be tweaked to before & after midnight where possible for dividing separate Days.
Therefore, the following presents "The Brig" "8 days ago" the middle of the night between Day 80 and 81, and "Today" beginning in the middle of the night between Day 88 and 89.
I'm not asking anyone to accept this timeline as the final say, quite the opposite. This is intended to be an organised attempt to view the two side-by-side and open communication to where change is necessary. I think I'm very close, but I'm open to discussion on all fronts.
"The Brig" 8 days ago (dark 80/day 81)
DARK
- Sayid and Kate sneak into the barracks to contact Jack, but are captured. Locke sneaks into Ben's house.
- Locke says they will approach the barracks when it is dark; this timestamp is vague because "dark" is many hours and it doesn't specify. We can make assumptions because Ben was asleep (but he was healing in a hospital bed) while Jack was still awake playing piano waiting to leave.
- Jack tells Kate he made a deal to leave the Island, but will come back for her.
- JACK: First thing in the morning. [whispering] I can bring back help. It's our best chance.
- This timestamp could refer to either just after midnight, technically morning, or just after dawn/daylight. It is still pitch black outside as they approach the sub, not daylight or even predawn, which lends to this timestamp being just after midnight. If this is correct, there would still be several hours of darkness left for all the other activities in the dark to take place. They would still happen morning of day 81, but would no longer necessitate another entire day added. This matches Ben's comment to Locke in the hallway outside Cooper (see below).
- JACK: First thing in the morning. [whispering] I can bring back help. It's our best chance.
- Ben asks about Locke's recovery from paralysis; Locke guesses Ben is wondering why he isn't recovering from surgery.
- Ben tells Locke about a "magic box" on the Island, which contains whatever a person desires.
- BEN: You've been here 80 days, John. ... Jack and I made a deal. In less than an hour he's leaving this island on that submarine
- Locke takes Alex hostage and blows up the submarine just before Jack and Juliet can board it to leave the island.
- Rousseau sees Alex.
- Ben and Richard take the handcuffs off Locke
- BEN: Do you remember earlier, John, when you called me a cheater?
- BEN: When I asked you earlier if it hurt when you suffered your injury, I think you misunderstood me.
- Ben tells Locke he is special because of his ability to "commune with the Island".
- Ben and Richard take Locke to see what came out of the "box": Anthony Cooper.
- Ben invites Locke to the Ruins with the Others.
- BEN: I'm afraid we don't have time to deal with that right now, John. We're leaving first thing in the morning, all of us.
- If Jack's timestamp above meant just after midnight, as it appears to mean by scenery context, this can mean in the daylight hours, as it appears to mean by scenery context.
- BEN: I'm afraid we don't have time to deal with that right now, John. We're leaving first thing in the morning, all of us.
- Ben plans for Juliet to infiltrate the crash survivors and identify pregnant women that the Others will kidnap.
- BEN: We've activated the implant in Claire, she should be symptomatic in the next 48 hours. (crossref Day 83 as Claire is sick)
- BEN: [Hands Juliet a gas mask] See you in a week.
- Interestingly enough, on Day 87, a week later, Ben records the reply to Juliet regarding the beach raid.
- Kate strikes out with a pool stick at the person walking through the door of where she is held captive. Kate is thrown to the ground, discovering it is Juliet who said she was just bringing her a sandwich.
DAY
"Exposé" (This episode has an 80 days ago reference to the day of the crash; 80+1= Day 81) (supported also by 9 days ago visit to the Pearl ("The Cost of Living"))
- Nikki uses a spider to paralyse Paulo and take the diamonds. Then she is paralysed by spiders whose appearance is accompanied by the sound of the monster.
- Sun finds out it was Charlie that attacked her as part of Sawyer's con.
- The Losties think Nikki and Paulo are dead, and bury them.
- Locke comes to see Kate to say goodbye, informing her he is leaving with the Others.
- BEN: Good. We're holding Kate a few buildings over from here, maybe you'd like to say goodbye. ("The Brig")—("8 days ago")
- Locke and the Others leave the barracks. Jack, Sayid, Kate and Juliet are left behind.
- Kate wakes up handcuffed to Juliet, tries to free herself when Juliet wakes up. They start walking back toward the Barracks.
- Hurley tells Sawyer about a meeting to take place the next day to banish him.
- SAWYER: You know how for three days, ten hours and fifteen minutes I ain't allowed to use nicknames? 3
"The Brig" 7 days ago (dark 81/day 82)
DARK
- In the rain, Kate and Juliet fight. Kate dislocates Juliet's shoulder.
- Kate and Juliet encounter the Monster. Juliet is 'scanned'.
- Juliet tells Kate the reason Jack didn't want Kate to come back for him. It wasn't because he was concerned for Kate's safety; it was because his heart was broken by seeing Kate in the cage with Sawyer.
- Kate "pops" Juliet's shoulder back into place, and they sleep in their hiding place in the trees.
- Sawyer brings Claire a blanket for Aaron.
DAY
- Sawyer goes boar hunting with Desmond, who questions Sawyer's motives.
- Kate and Juliet discuss Jack. Juliet breaks her cover story in order to repel the Monster at the sonic barrier.
- Charlie tips Sawyer off to the fact there was never a vote. When Sawyer confronts Hurley, he is told he needed to take on the responsibilities of leadership.
- Jack, Kate, Sayid and Juliet leave the barracks.
- Sayid is said, by Juliet, to have been chained to the swing-set for three days ("when it's dark" [Locke] 80 through all of 81 to late on 82)
DARK
- Jack, Kate, Sayid and Juliet make camp for the night by a stream. Sayid attempts to interrogate Juliet, but is told by Jack that Juliet is under his protection.
"The Brig" 6 days ago (dark 82/day 83)
DAY
- Claire sleeps through Aaron crying, Charlie and Hurley make oatmeal, Sawyer goes for aspirin when Claire gets up complaining of a headache
- Jack, Kate and Sayid, along with Juliet, return to the beach.
"The Brig" 5 days ago (dark 83/day 84)
DARK
- Jack argues with beach survivors about trusting Juliet. Charlie brings Claire out of her tent. Jack tells everyone about Locke blowing up the sub. Claire becomes dangerously ill.
- Juliet tells Jack and Kate about pregnant women dying on the island. Jack and Kate agree to let Juliet save Claire's life.
DAY
- Sayid and Sawyer confront Juliet at "Ethan's drop". They back down when Juliet questions their past behaviour.
- Claire recovers after being treated with Juliet's serum. The crash survivors allow Juliet to live among them.
- Desmond has flashes of himself, Hurley, Charlie and Jin looking for a parachutist. Paradoxically, the flashes show Charlie dying during the search and helping rescue the parachutist.
- Desmond and Hurley approach Jack for a first aid kit. ("Catch-22")
- Desmond comments how it must be nice for Jack to be in his own bed again. ("Catch-22")
- Sawyer walks into Kate's tent while she is getting dressed, and tries to initiate sex. She walks out of the tent past him, causing him to ask in frustration if he has to make her a mix tape.
- Desmond, Hurley, Charlie and Jin set off on a "camping" trip. ("Catch-22")
DARK "Catch-22"
- The "campers" tell ghost stories around the fire at the cable.
- Kate talks with Jack, who then leaves to eat with Juliet. Kate jumps Sawyer for sex.
"The Brig" 4 days ago (dark 84/day 85)
DARK
- (off-camera) Naomi spots the island from the helicopter and her instruments begin to go out-of-control ("The Brig")—(three day ago from the realtime events when she's relaying the story to Sayid)
"Catch-22"
- (just before dawn) Desmond's group hear a helicopter crash into the ocean and see a parachutist descend into the jungle. Charlie makes them wait at the cable until daylight.
DAY
"Catch-22"
- (off-camera) At first light, Desmond's group begin walking into the jungle after the parachutist.
"Catch-22"
- Desmond's group find a backpack containing a satellite phone and a book Ardil-22 (Catch-22 in Portuguese). Inside the book is a copy of Desmond's photograph. Desmond is convinced the parachutist is Penny.
- Sawyer and Jack play ping-pong. Sawyer realizes that Kate had sex with him because she felt snubbed by Jack the night before. Sawyer brings Kate the "mix tape" (a pre-recorded tape he's "borrowed" from Bernard), and tells her that she doesn't have to use him, she only needs to ask [for sex].
- Desmond saves Charlie from the same booby trap he saw the day before in his vision. The group rescue the parachutist (Naomi) from a tree; she recognises Desmond.
"D.O.C."
- (off-camera, mentioned by Jack) Jack goes by Sun and Jin's tent ("D.O.C.")
- Jack finds Sun in the garden (Sun says "good morning") and asks after Jin. Sun says he has gone camping, to which Jack replies he was really looking for her. He asks probing questions about Sun's pregnancy, which worries Sun. Sun's comments to Kate prompt her to reveal how Juliet told her and Jack why the Others wanted Aaron for research. Sun confronts Juliet and learns expectant mothers and their babies die if the conception happened on-island. ("D.O.C.")
- Sun is shown sitting on the beach in (what looks to be) late evening, obviously thinking about what Juliet has divulged. ("D.O.C.")
"D.O.C."
- Naomi is badly injured. Jin captures Mikhail. Mikhail buys his freedom by operating on Naomi's punctured lung, saying she will heal in a day or so.
- I've been missing this each time I was moving things around. Perhaps they didn't move Naomi for a while based on what Mikhail said, taking the time period literally since none of them are doctors. There is no canon-based determination to be seen regarding how long they waited and how long they walked back (8 hours walk to the drop site doesn't necessarily equal 8 hours back carrying a stretcher)
"The Brig" 3 days ago (dark 85/day 86/dark 86)
DARK
"D.O.C."
- Mikhail operates on Naomi into darkness, and then is allowed to leave. He attempts to steal the sat-phone, but is observed by Jin who chases him down to recover it.
"D.O.C."
- Juliet takes Sun to the Staff for an ultrasound scan. It shows that Sun became pregnant on the island; this means Jin is the father, but Sun will die if she doesn't get off the Island.
- JULIET: "OK, you crashed here ninety days ago."
- This is an obvious error, conflicting with the 90 day time-stamp of Greatest Hits and the rest of the timeline of events
- JULIET: "OK, you crashed here ninety days ago."
DAY
- (off-camera) The campers take Mikhail's advice and wait to move Naomi?
"D.O.C."
- Juliet and Sun leave the Staff. Sun waits outside while Juliet goes back in to "cover their tracks, but instead Juliet secretly records a message for Ben about Sun's pregnancy and collecting samples from the other women. Her true sympathies are revealed when she turns off the tape player and says to herself, "I hate you" (referring to Ben).
- JULIET: "Ben, its six AM on Saturday morning"
- This is another obvious error, conflicting with several events
- JULIET: "Ben, its six AM on Saturday morning"
- Juliet reveals the plan to kidnap the pregnant Losties to Jack.
- JULIET: "Last night with Sun, we saw the baby growing inside her" ("Operation: Sleeper")

- Ben listens to the recording Juliet made regarding Sun. He lets Locke know about the kidnap plan.
DARK
"The Brig" ("3 days ago")

"The Brig" 2 days ago (day 87)
"The Brig"—("2 days ago")
- Richard Alpert tells Locke that fertility problems are a distraction from what The Others' main concerns should be. He gives Locke a file on Sawyer and suggests Sawyer could kill Anthony Cooper.
- (off-camera) The campers take Mikhail's advice and wait to move Naomi?
"The Brig" 1 day ago (yesterday) (day 88)
DAY
"D.O.C."
- Desmond, Charlie, and Jin make a stretcher to carry Naomi, who comes to and tells Hurley that Flight 815 had been found with no survivors. (it is possible this happens any daylight time after Mikhail fixed her lung, during the wait to move her, as we don't actually see when they left the area or know how long it took them to get back with her)
- (off-camera) Desmond, Charlie, Jin, and Hurley make the trip back to the beach
"The Brig"—("yesterday")
- (off-camera) Ben records his reply to Juliet, and then later Locke steals the tape player and tape. ("The Man Behind the Curtain")—(BEN: "I recorded it yesterday, before we left")
- The Others break camp, leaving Locke and Anthony Cooper at the ruins. Ben tells Locke not to follow unless he is carrying Cooper's corpse.

- Kate tells Jack and Juliet about Naomi
- KATE: Seems only fair considering she's the reason that no-one wants to tell you that there's a woman in Hurley's tent who parachuted onto the Island yesterday.
- This statement conflicts with Naomi's statement. While Naomi's fits the events, there's no way I found to make Kate's statement work.
- KATE: Seems only fair considering she's the reason that no-one wants to tell you that there's a woman in Hurley's tent who parachuted onto the Island yesterday.
- Sayid restores power to Naomi's satellite phone but cannot get a connection because of interference.

Day 91
- A taller Walt appears to Locke at the DHARMA grave.
- Ben and Alex intercept the survivors before they reach the radio tower. Ben tries to persuade Jack that Naomi is one of the 'bad guys', and if she contacts her ship “Every living person on the Island will die”. Ben introduces Alex to her mother - Rousseau.
- Desmond swims down to the Looking Glass and hides. Mikhail swims down, kills Greta and wounds Bonnie. Desmond harpoons Mikhail.
- Sawyer, Juliet and Hurley rescue Sayid, Bernard and Jin, killing Tom, Ryan and Jason.
- Charlie disables the Looking Glass jamming equipment and receives a video-call from Penny. Mikhail detonates a grenade outside the station window. Charlie warns Desmond, "Not Penny's Boat", then drowns.

Day 98
Day 99
Notes
Hopefully this section will make sense.
Reasons to correct:
- 1 Locke is told by Ben outside the room Cooper is being held in that they are leaving in the morning and Locke can say goodbye to Kate ("The Brig")(Brig/8)
- LP timeline has Others leaving over 24 hours after Ben's statement "in the morning" (NB, he didn't say "tomorrow morning")
- 2 Ben is observed Day 80 wearing an orange shirt, and Locke finds him sleeping in pyjamas, showing Ben changes clothes (supported by different episodes as well). When Ben takes Locke to see Cooper (the same night/early morning because Ben refers to a conversation as "earlier", not yesterday"), Ben is wearing a striped shirt. Ben is still wearing the same striped shirt (and Juliet is wearing same aqua tunic with hood from the sub explosion) when they are discussing the plan and it's in Ben's house; also, there's a 48 hour mark for when Claire's symptoms began with her not waking up for Aaron ("One of Us")
- 2 Juliet is wearing same aqua tunic when she brings Kate the sandwich, and it's still dark outside the gameroom. ("Left Behind")
- Sayid was captured and handcuffed to the swing-set on night of day 80, left there through day 81, and finally released when Kate and Juliet returned on day 82, parts of "three days", an accurate, but non-pedantic fulfilment of Juliet's comment. ("One of Us")
- Barrack activities were not shown at all in "Exposé"
- 4 Catch-22 move is not prohibited by the events shown. In this version, Juliet goes for the meds late at night, returns next morning after confrontation with Sayid & Sawyer, tells Jack it will take "a few hours" to see results with Claire. This can all happen in early to late morning. Catch-22 on the beach starts with Desmond fishing (no timestamp) and Sawyer pressing Kate for sex ("afternoon delight", which could be between noon and sundown). When laid out like this, it prevents the recording falling after the listening with Juliet's answer to Ben on the tape.
- Everything fits the timeline given in "The Brig".
- Even if the 2-day odd difference is found to be true, these are all on-island events. Furthermore, if it is Christmas Eve on the island when Desmond phones from the freighter, this does not negate the theory because the calendar may not have been updated for the two days George was out of commission. Still, either way, it's a theory which shouldn't affect the timeline until it's confirmed correct by TPTB.
Reasons not to correct:
- Believing Juliet's statement in DOC regarding "Saturday"
- Reason to ignore:
- She also said it was 90 days which we know can't be correct.
- "Saturday" can only be inserted as it is currently by using the 2004 calendar from the outside world. It cannot be absolutely placed only considering on-island days.
- Reason to ignore:
- Doesn't seem to fit nickname penalty with the game on Day 79 and the comment made sooner than the time suggested could have passed
- Reason to ignore:
- The ping-pong game is listed on the LP timeline as Day 79 based on editor assumptions:
- Assuming Kate and Sawyer's return day (only one overnight was shown; any other overnights are based on guesswork)
- Assuming the A-team only travelled for 2 days (Sayid's comment starts "we've been", which could indicate those 2 days have been travelled already, and the comment was made on the third day)
- 3 Assuming the ping-pong game happened on the day the A-team arrived at the Flame, rather than some other time while the A-team was travelling (it would be boring to show them actually walking for the two days in-between the ping-pong segments)
- Correcting these might resolve any conflict. I think it's unreasonable to place timestamped events in incorrect places over editor assumption. There needs to be very strong contextual evidence to override a specific timestamp, as we have to do with the two in DOC and Kate's "yesterday" statements. We just don't have the justification here to do it.
- The ping-pong game is listed on the LP timeline as Day 79 based on editor assumptions:
- Reason to ignore:
- Expose seems like it would be a different day than when Hurley "cons" Sawyer, referring to what happened with Paulo and Nikki.
- Reason to ignore:
- "Seems like" is editor opinion. It cannot be absolutely placed as a separate day based solely on the content of the two episodes.
- Reason to ignore:
