Sorry Nick. I guess I am still learning. I didnt realize I should wait for the high-res pics. I just thought that was what they had this week. I'll keep and eye on them and try to update them later. Hey, I was just wondering, what is the big deal with the watermark? Why does it have be deleted? I dont mind doing it. I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind it... Otterpond

Audio Samples

I'm asking this to a few sysops. Should we put links in the Music article to 30 second samples? I have a website where those samples could be published.

Heres an example:

  • Shambala by Three Dog Night in "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead." Played on the DHARMA van's radio and also on young Hurley's radio at the beginning of the episode. Sample

I work as a sound designer (amongst other things) so can help with capturing and editing sound. Also with squeezing down the filesizes to make them internet friendly. give me a shout if I can be of use.  :) --TechNic|talk|conts 19:02, 14 April 2007 (PDT)

More pics

Hey Nick. I can cap from DVD for S1 and S2, but can't do S3 - for that I have to rely on tweaking existing pics. Here's Image:Mini-sabine.jpg and Image:Mini-pryce.jpg which are taken from their main article pics. And here's Image:Fleetcontract-60x90.jpg which has been cheated quite a bit to make it fit the size. It's such a visually boring image though, it seemed like the best thing to do. Let me know if you'd like me to try something else. --TechNic|talk|conts 19:02, 14 April 2007 (PDT)

Love the site but am relatively new here, and would like to help, and as it happens I have no problem getting screencaps from any recent eps if that would make your collective workloads a small bit lighter! --Bobi (talk) (contribs)22:35, 16 April 2007 (GMT)

3x11 Transcript

  • Hey Nick... FYI I inserted the Russian and Arabic dialog into the Enter 77 transcript. The Russian has also been interleaved within the other characters' English dialog (a few lines from Sayid were missing). Anyways I see we're working with Lost-TV which is great, would you mind letting them know of the updates, in case they are interested in this minor update? Also I'm interested in your contacts there when you have a chance in IRC or email. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 12:59, 21 April 2007 (PDT)

Here you go: Image:Jamie Silberhartz-60x90.jpg and Image:Hanso login-60x90.jpg - You might want to check the tags I gave them as I wasn't sure how to classify them! Let me know if there's any more tweakage to be done. I am very bored tonight! Cheers--TechNic|talk|conts 14:43, 22 April 2007 (PDT)

No problem :-) If you've no objections, I might work my way through some of the other images and reduce their filesizes to help the page load faster. Some of the files are a lot of Kb for very few pixels.--TechNic|talk|conts 15:07, 22 April 2007 (PDT)

Cool. Done those. So the page should be nice and streamlined now. I have to say that I know little about either templating or ClickA. I'm assuming that's a Wiki related thing to do with linking images is it? As for the three big images, how about three big 'montages' of a selection of key images from within each portal? So maybe the image for the characters portal would be pics of Rachel, Alvar, Joop, Mittelwerk, Wally Bole, etc within a sort of DHARMA logo frame. Or maybe this is overkill...--TechNic|talk|conts 17:02, 22 April 2007 (PDT)

Hey. OK, here's an example of a montaged image for the TLE characters portal image. Not quite sure how useful it is or what to do with it next. How many images to includes, which images, what background, etc. Anything can be be changed and I can try something entirely different. I am very open to comment and criticism, so don't feel compelled to be nice about it!--TechNic|talk|conts 09:52, 23 April 2007 (PDT)

Cool. Yeah, if you can cobble something together in Paint then I can work off that. :-) --TechNic|talk|conts 10:10, 23 April 2007 (PDT)

Hi Nick. Sorry, I haven't had the time to do that TLE portal pic yet. Been out on the road with a show but should have time to do useful things around the end of this week.--TechNic|talk|conts 17:55, 28 April 2007 (PDT)

Epsiode Articles

Hello Nick, As you are probably aware I'm am particapating in Article Attack this week and have a question. Where you wrote how to improve ...And Found you said to put images in a zigzag format. Is that an official rule for episode articles or would it be okay if I tryed something else? Thanks --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 04:15, 30 April 2007 (PDT)

Okay. When you get a chance can you check to flashback section of ...And Found and tell me if it's okay to have three pictures in a row on the left? Thank You --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 14:14, 30 April 2007 (PDT)

TLE Portal

Gosh, what a lot of idiots we've had in today! Good work on catching them! Anyway, I'm back home now and can do that Portal pic if it's still needed. Any further thoughts, or should I just cobble something together based on what we last talked about? I'm imagining the overall size to be about 900x600px. Cheers--TechNic|talk|conts 07:10, 8 May 2007 (PDT)

In that case maybe we should look at having it as a template with some images within it, rather than one big image. The benifit of this is the templates are proportional and will resize according to each users' screen size, otherwise a single image will often be too large or too small to fit properly.
So maybe a template like the one you pointed out would be best and then have pics at the the ends. These could be gifs which would cycle through some of the key images within each section - maybe framed within a filmstrip or a Hydra monitor for example.--TechNic|talk|conts 09:24, 8 May 2007 (PDT)

The Man Behind The Curtain

Sorry didnt realise, but i dont think it is a spoiler cos everyone who sees the episode before, sees the episode Next while credits are running.. also on the side of high-res, that was by bad screen capping, not the actual video, if u watched it urself you will see what I saw..

---addition--- ah well guess someone will get in there before me, just thought id add to it while i could and be first but.. nevermind.. you post it back up there for me then, once its aired.. lol :-D cos its right...

Ana Lucia

Well, I guess it's a matter of priorizing our sources. IMHO we should give precedence to the specific answer from the script coordinator about this question over some press release. Press releases are known not to be always accurate. What do you think? -- Cheers (talk) 14:48, 9 May 2007 (PDT)

Hmmm, would you not rather discuss that on Ana Lucia's discussion page before you get into a revert frenzy? :) -- Cheers (talk) 14:50, 9 May 2007 (PDT)
The mention has been on Ana Lucia's discussion page for two months. It seemed safe enough by now to proceed and fix the occurrences when we spot them. It's not that I care strongly about that name as such. But I don't see any valid reason why someone would want to contradict the people who make the show when they specifically state how a name must be spelled. Anyway, I still think you state your arguments to the contrary on the discussion page. -- Cheers (talk) 15:04, 9 May 2007 (PDT)
Hi Nick, here's a quick follow-up about this question: Since last week, I went through all the official press releases available on ABC's website. They always use "Ana Lucia". I found no exception that could form a basis for an alternate spelling. So do the episode captions and the printed booklet with the DVD set. All official sources are thus in agreement with what we were confirmed by Gregg Nations when he specified "no hyphen". There doesn't seem to be any doubt that this is indeed the spelling. -- Cheers (talk) 03:13, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

Theory about Jacob's identity

Hi Nick.. I Was Researching about Jacob's identity, and I developed what I believe is a very good theory about that.. Very good for an article in the lostpedia's blog..

Radzinsky = Jacob

What you think about that possibility?? If you look at the jacob's screenshot, you will see a very big hole on his head, a hole probably caused by a gun shot.. Like Radzinsky, which:

"Committed suicide by putting a shotgun in his mouth and firing it, causing a blood stain on the ceiling."

He was who painted the map on blast doors. Like Ben have said to Locke in "The Man Behind the Curtain": "He knows everything about the island". I believe that he has some relationship with Ben. Since he worked for dharma initiative and his history isn't clear yet..

Theory Pages

A quick question, so that I can help the good works around here. What's the policy on deleting debunked/outdated entries on theory pages? For example, we now know Roger Linus was really part of DHARMA, and a theory suggests he wasn't. Can they just be deleted outright, or is there a review process? --ConspiracyofDetails 11:55, 11 May 2007 (PDT)

Symbolism

Looks great; I agree that it should be added as a Literary technique article. It is subjective, definitely, but lots of non-theory-articles on Lostpedia are subjective. For example: Irony, Leadership, Economics; all of those articles contain non-canon subjective analysis. I think Lostpedia is more fun with these articles :).

If we wanted to, we could add disclaimers to the top of articles or sections that contain the non-canon analysis stuff. It would be quite an undertaking if we decided to do it site-wide. Best of luck, -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 19:58, 12 May 2007 (PDT)

Banners in templates

Hi Nick, When adding a banner to a template page, please make sure that there's no carriage return, line break or space before the 'noinclude' tag or after the '/noinclude' tag. The reason for that precaution is that any such break before or after the tags gets included into the template and thus modifies its resulting look in the target pages. This may sound like a small thing, but it can make a big difference in the actual rendition, in particular in the case of small templates. For example, it took me some time today to figure out why the unsig template wasn't displaying normally, until I realised it was because of the additional line break added with the 'delete' banner. Thanks. -- Cheers (talk) 03:54, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

Autosig

Thanks for the suggestion about an autosig. I toyed with the idea of a sig template at some point, but decided against it. Having made my first wikisteps at Wikipedia, I guess I remain marked by the resource-saving policies and concerns. Sig templates are strictly forbidden there now, because of the enormous resource-hogging burden they place on the WP servers. WP policy now requires the use of raw sigs. (And of a length of under one line of code, although that last requirement is for aesthetic reasons on edit pages, not resource-related.) Of course, we are not at all of the same size here at Lostpedia and we do not experience the same problem. Still, while I know sig templates are allowed here, I would feel somewhat uncomfortable with using one personally. I don't know, maybe it's my 'green' side showing. The only bit I've added to the 'basic' sig is a link to my talk page, which is extra-short and takes almost no space. But as I don't need a complicated sig, I'm content with just that 'spartan', resource-friendly, Wikipedia-compliant, sig. If necessary, I'd rather just delete this short link to my talk page instead of using a sig template. -- Cheers (talk) 06:13, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

Videos

Hi Nick! I saw that you removed the youtube video from Barracks video a few days ago. I realised it was against the rules to put official video clips from episodes (I don't have much experience in Lostpedia, but i'm trying to learn it quickly). However, another user put the video again (and personally i want it to be there) but i deleted it. Also the question i asked on the talk page was not answered, so: Is it breaking the rules if we put a link to YouTube on the Barracks video page? IRC

Why are you so worked up, anyway?

What does it matter if my site uses similar template design? How does this affect Lostpedia in any way whatsoever?

What's with the personal attack claiming I can't create a template or code a wiki? I've coded dozens of templates from scratch. And I am coding a wiki.

Template design is not covered under creative commons, and I highly doubt that Lostpedia has any software patents, which template code may fall under.

I am not desperate to find editors. Lostpedia is mostly completed (yeah I know, work in progress, but still)

I was only looking for a bit of help with building up my site which is brand new.

Apparently, if it is not Lost-related, it is considered spam.

Soliciting a bit of help is "poaching" editors? By this reasoning, somehow Lostpedia is going to fall into ruin, and the editor in question will never again contribute to Lostpedia.

What are you guys so scared of, anyway? Seriously, you're acting like a bunch of chicken littles.

User:Tarabyte 10:20, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

You accuse me of plagarism. Where's the decency in that?

Did you actually read what I wrote?

I didn't state that Lostpedia would fall into ruin. I stated that, by the way you are acting, you and other sysops seem scared of that happening.

You are acting as if you are worried that if someone from Lostpedia comes and edits on my wiki, that you will somehow lose them.

Otherwise, you'd not be so anal about things.

For the record, I am making my own templates. I am not going to apologize for borrowing some formatting code from some of your templates. The templates are not the same, and my site is not the same.

User:Tarabyte 11:48, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

template != content

My template is not a "blatant copy" of LP's template.

It is not the same template.

And your argument of how someone poured hours and hours into its design, I just don't buy.

I am not taking LP articles and copy and pasting them into my site. Yet that is what you accuse me of.

I highly doubt that LP invented the "boxes with rounded corners" look that you seem so anal to protect.

Plus, there are dozens of other sites where I've seen that same "look".

Images

  • Hey, I had an idea and I was hoping for your input. Basically, at the moment every image is categorised by season, i.e. Category:Images from Season 1. When looking for a particular image, that makes searching hard as they're all grouped together. So I thought maybe for all images from "Pilot, Part 1", we could categorise it like this: [[Category:Images from Season 1|Pilot, Part 1]]. Or, alternatively, do Category:Images from Pilot. Or, we could leave it as is. What do you reckon? Thanks, --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  04:27, 31 May 2007 (PDT)

Ridiculous idea ah0y!

Hey, I have a wild idea. And to be honest, I don't know where to post it, so I picked you, being a fellow Brit and all. Bear with me, I'm getting there...

I was wondering what you (or any other SysOps) thought about having a review tab on each of the episode pages, along with dicussion, theories, etc. I don't know if this has been suggested before, and if it has and was shot down, that's fine with me. It's just I think some members would like to to post up their own self-contained reviews of an episode, and maybe have feedback on it too. It's just a suggestion of course, and if it's not good/not possible, no worries. I'm just putting it out there, so to speak! --Blackannis 12:21, 7 June 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for replying, and when you put it like that, I see what you mean. --Blackannis 08:47, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
And a further idea, from a third Brit (us Brits need to stick together): maybe, during the hiatus, we could have a page called Lostpedia:Episode reviews where every week a SysOp asks a trusted member (i.e. one that's been on the site for ages, making contributions, etc) to write a review for an episode. It could even be linked in with the Lost Rewatch... :) For example, I did a review of "A Tale of Two Cities". I think it could be a good way of giving us all something to do :) What do you reckon? --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  12:37, 7 June 2007 (PDT)
I have to say, it was Lost Soul's review I saw that gave me this idea in the first place! --Blackannis 15:05, 7 June 2007 (PDT)
