There are many plot similarities that Lost has with several other television shows and movies. Below are some examples, which may be entirely coincidental. Cast crossovers are not listed below.

An unseen entity, Jacob, rules the ragtag band of The Others through one person. This one person's position is soon threatened by another person. An unseen entity, Management, rules the ragtag band of Carnies through one person (Samson). Samson's position is soon threatened by another person, Lodz.
Locke needs to kill a man in order to continue on his spiritual journey. Brother Justin needs to kill a man to continue on his journey of spiritual enlightenment.
