Repetition refers top patterns that are notable, but do not seem to be essential to the storyline (i.e. unlike recurring themes) occasionally occur in the Lost storyline.


  • Kate's juice
    1. Kate drugged Jack Shephard by putting drugs into fruit juice ("The Greater Good")
    2. Kate drugged Kevin Callis by putting drugs into his fruit juice ("I Do")
    Theory: Who will Kate drug next-- with juice?


  • Charging boars
    1. Michael was knocked over by a charging boar as he, Kate and Locke attempted to hunt boar for the first time. ("Walkabout")
    2. Jin was knocked over by a charging boar, just before discovering Goodwin's body.("...And Found")
    3. Sawyer was knocked over by a charging boar as he heard whispers. ("Outlaws")
    4. Charlie was charged at by a boar, before it is caught in a trap by Locke. ("The Moth")
    Theory: Who will be knocked over by a charging boar next?


  • Numbers: 18
    1. Season 1 episode 18 was a Hurley flashback ("Numbers")
    2. Season 2 episode 18 was a Hurley flashback ("Dave")
    Theory: Season 3 episode 18 will be a Hurley flashback.



  • Dead boar as a sign
    1. Dead boar marked a trap by Rousseau that Hurley triggered. ("Numbers")
    2. Dead boar marked the proximity of the polar bear cave ("Further Instructions")
    Theory: What dire location will a dead boar mark next?


  • Charlie and bugs - Charlie's storyline is dependent on bugs, in three consecutive episodes in Season 1.
    1. Episode 6: Charlie was led out of a cave by a moth. ("House of the Rising Sun")
    2. Episode 7: Charlie stepped on a beehive, leading to entry into a cave. ("The Moth")
    3. Episode 8: Charlie flirts with Claire by saying: "Yeah, who wouldn't want to spend the day with sand fleas." ("Confidence Man")
    Theory: Bugs will be back in Charlie's storyline in Season 3


  • Dark and Light side of the Bamboo
    1. Sayid uses a bamboo needle fashioned on the spot to attempt to torture Sawyer. ("Confidence Man")
    2. Jack uses a bamboo needle fashioned on the spot to attempt to save Boone. ("Do No Harm")


  • Tom

A disproportionate number of characters are named "Tom":

  1. Tom (Mr. Friendly), one of the "Others"
  2. Tom Brennan, Kate's childhood sweetheart
  3. Tommy, Charlie's drug dealer in episode 1x15, "Homecoming"
  4. Thomas, Claire's ex-boyfriend and Aaron's father.
  5. Tom, Christian Shephard's nickname given to him by Ana-Lucia
  6. Theory: More characters named Tom will be encountered.


  • Ballerinas must always be in distress
  1. Danielle's music box, with a ballerina figurine, was broken
  2. Shannon the ballerina was faced with the death of her father, and the rejection by her stepmother
  3. The glass ballerina broken by the young Sun
