Discussion (Real world character influences)

Exactly which page are you talking about? And no offense taken at all. -- Sam  T  C  17:41, 28 June 2008 (PDT)

If you're talking about the Ram Dass page, marking an article for merging is a flag for people to discuss the merging, not to merge immediately. A SysOp will monitor the discussion and then decide when a consensus has been reached. -- Sam  T  C  17:43, 28 June 2008 (PDT)
No, no, I see what you're getting at. However, I feel that the info should be left on the character pages, because they are, after all, the basis for the character. However, there should be a page, perhaps, for "Real world character influences," or something to that nature. That would be something to be brought up in Lostpedia:Ideas. -- Sam  T  C  18:20, 28 June 2008 (PDT)
I did so. Also, on one related suggestion, it would be much helpful to your talk page if the infobox thing at the top was moved to another page. -- Sam  T  C  20:04, 28 June 2008 (PDT)
Haha, it's alright. And okay, g'night! -- Sam  T  C  20:12, 28 June 2008 (PDT)

Grandmas

That would be an opportunity for comic relief right there. -- Sam  T  C  15:45, 1 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:Motives

To be honest, if its a well-conceived idea and its well linked to, people will contribute to it. Whenever you make an article that could last, make sure there is exposure (i.e. add it to a nav and hyperlink to and from it as appropriate). You could also ask users to help you with it, but as far as a special "Help me" page, I dunno as at Lostpedia no page is left behind haha (well maybe the orphaned pages). Seriously, if its good stuff, people will help with it.--Nickb123 (Talk) 05:28, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

Changed the Abaddon thing, but note it isn't actually a locked page. --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:10, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

Anagrams

Ah. My mistake. I should have thought it out before restoring that edit. However, I do disagree with you on the overall deletion of the anagrams page. It is a very useful resource, I think. -- Sam  T  C  13:02, 6 July 2008 (PDT)

Linking

Nice linking of the There's No place Like Home 2& 3 theory content to devoted theory pages. There is so much redundancy in Lostpedia - if only everyone was using links rather than repeating their arguments on multiple pages. Every little bit helps!

Re:User

Thanks, I blocked him. I only did it for a year though, I should have clicked infinite. Oh well, nvm. --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:46, 13 July 2008 (PDT)

Er, I don't get what you mean lol. Run that by me again. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:33, 14 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:CharportalAF

Thanks! I further explained this here --   Connor401    talk    contribs    email   18:20, 14 July 2008 (PDT)

Relevant

Relevant how?--Jim in Georgia Talk Contribs 08:03, 20 July 2008 (PDT)

The theory explains: Shepard's appearance on the freighter, as representative of Jacob, and thus illustrative of Jacob's intent, it explains Michael's purpose and fulfilment of said purpose, furthers Ben's purposes off-island. It also suggests that the freighter explosion and those on board will play a further part in the narrative. These are all relevant questions addressed by the theory. ∇ϕ 04:47, 21 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:Spoiler

I don't think its a spoiler to have a statement but say "this was debunked by the writers", as that isn't conflicting with the spoiler policy. I know its a fine line though. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:21, 27 July 2008 (PDT)

Re:Sperm Count

The quote was originally from the last bullet of this section of the article. It has been changed oh so slightly but the mathematical error still exists. I tried to google the average healthy sperm count but got several very different results and none from a reputable source. I also don't have a source for the island multiplier factor (not sure if 5x is canon). If no one can find a reliable source then maybe the entire bullet should be removed. Hope that helps.--MetallichickX 00:21, 29 July 2008 (PDT)

Ah ok, I see what you meant now by archive. I don't want to sound like one of those self-righteous "more experienced" editors (because I certainly don't feel like one) but if you're going to archive a talk page the entire page should be archived, not just one section from the middle of the page. I'm not sure if that talk page needs archiving either; it's not too long, but I'm not sure what the general rule of thumb is on that. Also, the real help would be removing that line from the actual article, since it seems inaccurate and has no source. Let me know if you need help or if any of that sounds wrong to you, I may have been misinformed.--MetallichickX 00:26, 30 July 2008 (PDT)
Hmmm, the original quote was never deleted, it's still part of the main article, under section 1.1 (Fertility). Also I've never known anyone to only archive one section of a talk page. If I get some free time this weekend I'll see if I can't help out a bit.--MetallichickX 08:56, 2 August 2008 (PDT)

Image rename

Images can only be renamed by deleting them and re-uploading them. So, in general, we don't do it, even for typos. Robert K S (talk) 16:05, 30 July 2008 (PDT)

Renaming images

Hey Gaarmyvet,

I've seen your comment on Plkrtn's talk. As far as I know, images can't be renamed. So either you upload another image or you have to live with it ;) --       19:26, 30 July 2008 (PDT)

Sandbox

  • It should work if they link to their sandbox directly. I'm not sure how the basepagename templates and all those others work. -- Sam  T  C  15:30, 7 August 2008 (PDT)

Hi, I noticed you have a sandbox and I have been wondering about how to make one. Sorry, I know, I've been here for over two months and I still can't do some simple things. Thanks!--Jinx 20:40, 1 August 2008 (PDT)

  • Thanks for your help! :)--Jinx 15:49, 2 August 2008 (PDT)
    • I kind of messed up when making my sandbox, but I figured, it doesn't matter. I actually made a user page on accident. If you look at my user page at the very top it says Lostpedia Embassy, follow that and then look at your address bar. Heh. I accidently made a user page. :P Anyway, I would use the template that you gave me, but since I have two user page instead of an actual sandbox I don't think it will work...--Jinx 14:59, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
      • Okay, thanks it now works! :) Also, I was wondering if you could help me with my sig. Below is the code for it, you can look at the edit thing and find out what it looks like in HTML or wiki or whatever. I'm trying to get it so that every time I hit the sign button, my sig just automatically goes up.--Jinx 15:09, 11 August 2008 (PDT) :

DHARMA booth video

Hello there! There appears to be more dispute over on the DHARMA booth video talk page about that pesky "Jennifer" line. If you wouldn't mind, could you pop in to weigh in on the situation? I'm not entirely sure how to go about resolving this. Thanks a bunch. ~Iridia talk contribs 08:54, 2 August 2008 (PDT)

Thank you for your comment. I like to post my comments from other users' talk pages so I can remember exactly what transpired. I originally comment on the fellow user's page and then just make a copy for my own records. That way months from now I'm not going "What on earth were they on about?" (which I wound up doing frequently on Wikipedia) :) Again, many thanks for your assistance! ~Iridia talk contribs 11:07, 2 August 2008 (PDT)

Re:Watchlist

Hi, check your watchlist and then your preferences that the email address etc is correct. Tbh though, this and some images not rendering - I think we're set a system failure at some point this week. --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:46, 6 August 2008 (PDT)

Admin might be able to fix stuff before it gets worse. I'll mention it. --Nickb123 (Talk) 07:37, 6 August 2008 (PDT)

Featured articles

Hey, Jim. I've been contacting some of the more frequent editors on the wiki about the featured article selection page. It's a very important part of the wiki, but recently, it's become somewhat underused and unknown. Perhaps you would consider checking the page regularly, and voting on some of the articles? I think the featured article selection is a very important part of the wiki, and we need editors like you to keep it actively running as a source to find the best articles on the wiki. Thanks. -- Sam  T  C  13:31, 7 August 2008 (PDT)

Well, the amount of watched pages depends on how much free time you have. And I have a LOT of free time. =P I've got about twenty pages on mine. And thanks for helping...feel free to vote on any and all nominations. Thanks again. -- Sam  T  C  15:03, 7 August 2008 (PDT)

Ideas

Well, just because it won't go anywhere else doesn't mean it should go there. The best thing is to post a link and instructions on your userpage, and see if people bite. It is a good thing, though.-- Sam  T  C  20:05, 12 August 2008 (PDT)

Monster

The last edit I made to the Monster's theory page was just some grammatical clean up. What TPTB were saying in the sentance was that Sawyer's Boar, Dave, Boone, and Emily Linus, were NOT manifestations of the monster. This was said in the March 21st 2008 podcast. As far as the number of monsters I don't recall TPTB saying anything about that. --Gluphokquen Gunih 18:17, 13 August 2008 (PDT)

== Barracks_battle == DocH says:

First - Reviewed the page like you asked. There could be some 'trivia' added. As Smokey re-emerged to drag the merc back into the forest, it clearly appeared as the face, ears, trunk of an elephant.

Second - The blurb about Claire, miraculously, survived is not very well written. Besides the dramatic overstatement and implication that she was in the house, I think the article should read more like the official ABC recap (below). Not the entire recap, OBVIOUSLY, just the part about Claire not being in the house that took the RPG.

WHOOSH to the barracks as Sawyer heads to Claire's house but PFAFT! PFAFT! Automatic gunfire kicks up the earth around Sawyer, and he bolts for cover. Then one of the assailants fires a rocket propelled grenade and KABOOM! Claire's home explodes in a deafening blast. Sawyer searches through the smoldering ruins and finds her in the back yard under a basket of laundry. She has a bloody cut on her forehead but she's alive. Shots ring out from the distant tree line, so Sawyer scoops Claire up and runs for Ben's house!

Following the SEMI-CANON policy where - ABC's Official LOST page (RECAP) is an official outlet for commentary AND the creative staff of LOST directly comments. Although not part of the STORY of LOST, IS still an official source of information.

Lastly - Theories. There is considerable speculation that Claire actually died in the battle and was kept animated (by the island) long enough to get to her rendezvous with Christian, OR that she was mortally wounded and died on Christians' arrival at the beddown location.

Bottomline - Smoke Monster/Elephant face trivia (pic showing image). Claire under laundry, in yard behind exploding house (pic showing clothes/lines). Claire theory as walking dead, walking wounded (med code zero).

Cheers Chief! I'll review again later. --DocH 13:31, 16 August 2008 (PDT)

--DocH 14:12, 16 August 2008 (PDT) More thoughts - Bens secret door. Need mention that it went underground from his one-story house. Need mention that he returned covered in soot, dust/dirt. Possible mention of the tunnels that underly the barracks. Tunnels are not theory - Which building(s) they access are.

re: The bodies

--DocH 13:18, 17 August 2008 (PDT) Just reading everyone's recent inputs and I have a question. When you discount the "Others" from performing the hasty burials... are you discounting Alpert (and his band of merry men) and/or Harper Stanhope (and company). As I recall, Alperts' gang was alerted and probably on the move once they received the mirror flash (if in fact it was them on the peak). I am not saying I don't support the 'absorbtion' premise... it's just that Alpert and Band may fit the hasty burial profile... rapid movement to meet Keamy's squad... and enough personnel in the Band to leave a few behind for hasty burial. Now - if you could tie the 'whispers' (residual voices) to the islands absorbing the bodies - wow, that would be great.

Re:Calendar

Yes, I removed it because it was very difficult to edit and easily add new dates. The page is just for easy navigating so I know what I'm doing, to be honest I have an archive page for old ones, I just need to be able to create new links for future ones, so the format right now is fine. --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:37, 20 August 2008 (PDT)

Claire Lead-in Paragraph

You caught my meaning perfectly. I went in and did some very minor grammar edits, nothing of substance. Thanks again.--Schoolmann 21:29, 27 August 2008 (PDT)

Re:Fringe

Hey Jim, We have already started the wiki though at fringe.vindemi.com. There are a lot of reasons we started it there, one of it being that if the show and the site picks up, I plan to register a domain for it. Cheers, --JPB. T. C. E. 15:15, 28 August 2008 (PDT)

Hey Jim,

I guess the only way is to save the picture then uploaded to fringe. The site was down for a couple of minutes because I was changing Apache (Now you can upload up to 35 MB!). You are sysop, you don't have to ask me for permissions ;) --JPB. T. C. E. 17:25, 28 August 2008 (PDT)

There's No Place Like Home Cleanup

Hi Jim. Can you explain why you nominated 4.13/4.14 for cleanup? I don't understand what "match the action of ABC.com" means. Thanks. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 18:00, 28 August 2008 (PDT)

The original title for the episode is "There's No Place Like Home Parts 2 & 3". I don't think we should have three seperate articles because it is still one prolonged episode (2 hours). The end Lost sequence (credits) does not appear at the end of Part 2, but it does appear at the end of Part 3. This is because they are really combined episodes (so they count as one). -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 18:21, 28 August 2008 (PDT)

New Picture

It is a promotional image of Emilie de Ravin, as Claire - from the same series seen on every other current main character's page. See Kate, Sun, Jack or Juliet to see this just for examples.

Fringe Wiki

Hey Jim I just wanted to say that the site will be down for about a day because I have decided to register a new domain for it: fringewiki.info . Cheers, --JPB. T. C. E. 20:50, 4 September 2008 (PDT)

Problem solved. It is now located at fringewiki.info. --JPB. T. C. E. 21:41, 4 September 2008 (PDT)
