Just want to say: thank you very much for all the help so I could make my user page. I've wanted to make a page for ages, and just never got round to it. But your help gave me the opportunity. So thanks again! -  Lost Soul   talk  contribs

user page help

or indeed Help:User pages - i've made it a redirect to User:Nickb123/page_help for now; maybe consider adding {{Nav-Meta}} to the end of the page? --kaini. 10:57, 9 August 2006 (PDT)

Whatever you like! I could always adapt the content to make it more official and formal (and then move it to a proper Help: page, though I like that people benefiting from it can keep me informed of how their pages are progressing by keeping it as a subpage of my area. I'll happily put on the nav though --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:22, 9 August 2006 (PDT)

Userboxes

I copied a few templates from wikipedia that make userboxes easier to manage. See Template:Userboxtop. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 09:33, 25 August 2006 (PDT)

dynamic user box

I am trying to create a user box template that will show a real time (dynamic) count of how many edits we have made. I am having trouble with the wiki formatting. It displays our number of edits in the my preferences page. But the user box displays the total edits in Lostpedia. Here is what I have:

461,918 This user has made 461,918 edits on Lostpedia.

First off, nice idea! By the way, I never even knew edit counts were displayed under Special:Preferences, must be a recent wiki update new feature. Very cool though! As for the box, I'll try and figure out a way as best I can, as its such a good idea. I dunno if it can be done, but I'd like to have a go at trying. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:51, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
For starters, you can say, for instance Special:Contributions/Nickb123, and use your username. Otherwise, anyone other than you ends up on their own page when they click it. However, the physical numbers do not case after doing this. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:59, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
Oh ok, I spoke to Jabrwocky about this, and basically {{NUMBEROFEDITS}} is a "magic word", and so will always return the total number of page edits since MediaWiki, the software that runs this site, was installed. See [1] for more info. Thus, I don't believe its possible to do without specific software we'd have to figure out and install as an extension. --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:18, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
For reference purposes, this would probably do it [2] but we'd need to install it and that could be tricky and you'd need to get User:Admin to do that. --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:24, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

Another idea, I found a "one for all" edit box on Wikipedia. All you must do Is type in the number of edits in

{{User contrib|N}} (where N = number of edits). It automatically changes color. I have formatted the text for Lostpedia. It is currently at Template:Dynamic edits. The problem is that it displays like this:
333333 |FF3333}}; text-align: center; font-size: 12pt; color: #{{#iferror: 500 | FFFFFF |000000}};" | 500 000000 |000000}};" class="plainlinks neverexpand" | This user has made = 0 and 500 < 2500 | 000000 }}}}}}}">over 500 edits to Lostpedia.000000}}}}}">|}}
. It might be that it is in my sandbox and not at Template:User contrib--   Connor401    talk    contribs    email   11:26, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
I don't really get that. But anyway, I've put in a request to Admin for the extension. Doesn't mean it will be done but all ya can do is ask right! --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:16, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
