Hey, I'm the first one to post on this talk archive round ...hmmmm :) Thanks Paul for replying instead of Nick..I'll be make something up by tom, and post it there..one point, aren't we supposed to post the sample text in the main nominations page, and not at its talk page..everyone else seems to be doing that, or am I missing something ? -- 17:04, 20 November 2006 (PST)
- No problema, I'm in deep need of sleeping myslef. Thanks and c u tom. Regards-- 17:06, 20 November 2006 (PST)
Thanks
Thanks for taking care of those articles. --Minderbinder 18:21, 20 November 2006 (PST)
Bole pic?
Hey, Paul. I think you mentioned the other day that Wally's face being a Spielberg/Lucas composite was officially confirmed? Do we have a source? Someone added it to his page and Santa & I are curious... --PandoraX 03:53, 21 November 2006 (PST)
Apologies
I apologised immediately after to the user who removed the language, I understand swearing is not acceptable and won't happen again. I do feel though I was valid in being upset, it felt like I was being talked down to or even mocked by a SysOp, who I expcet to be the most professional users here. I was just trying to get a valid point across and was surprised at the response I got. --Joe 16:29, 21 November 2006 (PST)
Picture captions
Can you tell me why it is that you disagree that incomplete sentences should not receive periods, as is the style preference everywhere else? Robert K S 01:17, 22 November 2006 (PST)
- If it is the case that you believe those captions to be sentences, then I beg to differ. A sentence consists of a subject and a predicate. "Charlie on the plane" is not a sentence; it has a subject (Charlie) but no predicate, explicit or implied. Thus it is merely a noun phrase. If you'd like to make this a complete sentence, I suggest adding a verb. You might go with "Charlie sits on the plane", but I bet you can be more creative, since "sits" is fairly weak and, well, sedentary, as verbs go. As for "The group standing over a dead polar bear"--this, again, is not a sentence, as it has no predicate, though a newcomer to the English language should not be scolded too harshly for mistakenly identifying "standing" as the verb. Standing is a gerund, a sort of modified verb that actually acts as a noun; so this, too, is a noun phrase; specifically, it is a gerund phrase. Changing "standing" to "stands" renders the phrase into a sentence. Robert K S 02:15, 22 November 2006 (PST)
- You are attributing malice where none was meant. I edited my remarks because upon first read I realized they were harsh. Robert K S 02:39, 22 November 2006 (PST)
- Well, that's not correct. Robert K S 02:49, 22 November 2006 (PST)
- It's not incorrect because English has "evolved" (or devolved) to neglect the rules of its own syntax. It's incorrect by definition. Look up sentence in the dictionary and you will find something akin to "a grammatical unit that is syntactically independent and has a subject... and a predicate that contains at least one finite verb". You've twice mentioned "15th century texts" but you will not be able to produce any examples of writings from any past era in which sentence fragments dominate complete sentences as the preferred method of communicating thoughts. Vowels shift, spellings standardize, words come and go and change in meaning, dialects wax and wane in popularity, but the meaning of "sentence" univerally references an actor and an action. I further might point out that if your interest is to emphasize an English that is less recognizable to us than our own, you'd do better to pick a century earlier than the 15th. During that century the evolution to Modern English was complete, and the writings during that period are easily decipherable by present-day English speakers, as opposed to, say, the Old English of Beowulf or the Middle English of The Canterbury Tales. Robert K S 13:50, 25 November 2006 (PST)
- I seem to be talking past you. I'm not disagreeing with you that language has evolved and continues to evolve. I'm disagreeing with your definition of "sentence", which, as that peerless English speaker Borat would say, is loose like sleeve of wizard. Robert K S 21:56, 26 November 2006 (PST)

Re
After fighting for the article, I really don't care about the link that much. I always said one thing at a time, and knew the idea would spark more arguments. If non-Lostpedians want a link, fantastic, but I think getting an article was the huge step. --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:29, 22 November 2006 (PST)
- S'ok, I just really like that script and I'm pretty sure its the actual one. If you read it, you'd get what I'm saying cause its got some really interesting subtext content --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:27, 22 November 2006 (PST)
TOC
I noticed you captioned the pic on Deceptions and Cons, thanks! Do you know if there's a way to get the Table of Contents to lock itself to the left hand side of the page? I have a feeling that characters aren't going to stop lying, so the article may continue to grow. I think it might look better if the article formatted itself around the table of contents instead of having it stretch long in the middle, but I don't know how... -BearDog 17:14, 22 November 2006 (PST)

Hey Paul, if you've got a spare moment around now, could you come in chat? --PandoraX 18:06, 22 November 2006 (PST)

What was the point of this?
Okay, I'm grateful and everything for you unblocking me, but why do you have to go and say things like this behind my back? I've never blamed any of my mistakes on you! --SilvaStorm
- I would have only said that if I found the banning to be unfair, which in most cases it is! I can't believe how much people complain on here about other peoples efforts. --SilvaStorm
- Okay, I know I've done that before, and I'm sorry if it was going against the rules, but just to be clear, are these spoilers that you're mentioning the pages that I have created for upcoming episodes/characters? --SilvaStorm
- Well I don't really see how they're spoilers! It's not like they're giving away the plot, they're just titles. --SilvaStorm
- Okay, I feel like I'm not wanted on this site anymore so I might as well stop contributing. --SilvaStorm
- This has put me off creating pages ever again, as I feel I'll get banned for it. --SilvaStorm
- I don't expect you to, but please don't say stuff like that behind my back again. --SilvaStorm
- Well I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't happen to pass Minderbinder's talk page. --SilvaStorm
- Okay, okay, you're apparently always right, so let's leave it be. --SilvaStorm
- Snide? Uhhh... --SilvaStorm

Hehe well you'll be away from here for a few weeks then! What games you get? --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:19, 27 November 2006 (PST)
Re: Whats this about?
The reason for that was Minderbinder kept poking his nose into my business, especially concerning you and me. He also seemed to be looking at every edit I made or page I created (on both Lostpedia and Wiki) and asking why I did that, or just plain opposing me. If you look around, you will see. --SilvaStorm
Questions
Hi Paul, I have two questions:
- First, regarding the suggestion of renaming the Good Family article, which you have started. As you know, 5 votes now, including mine, have been made to rename it to Good and bad or Good and bad people, against a vote for Good family and Santa's vote to keep the current name. However, today I have discovered that the rename template has been removed, in spite of a majority of votes to rename it to Good and bad, what's up with that ?
- Second, do you if anyone in particular is in charge of Jack's article. I've been having ideas about enhancing it by spreading some vertical screencaps like those I used with Sayid's, which I think fleshed out its content, but yet I don't wanna be stepping over someone's area. I know wiki's are free for all, but it's never bad to ask :)
Thanks a lot-- 02:56, 30 November 2006 (PST)
- Theres no dibs on any articles apart from some minor pet projects that you afterwards keep your eye on (e.g. you with Sayid). So edit what you like on that one. With regards to the rename, I shall look at it now. Stepping over someone's are now Paul ;) --Nickb123 (Talk) 03:21, 30 November 2006 (PST)
- Great, and I'll be seeing what improvements I can introduce to Jack's. Thanks Nick:)-- 03:51, 30 November 2006 (PST)

Statistics
Hey. Didnt know where to put this so i thought id contact you personally. Basically this is just a suggestion, i was thinking that we could delete "users" that either havnt logged on for a year, or delete users who just made an account, never contributed and havnt logged in since for over a month? The idea behind this came from the statistics page, which shows thousands of users, and we know that not all of them are editing. So i thought this could be implemented in order to show a more "true" version of the statistic? ta. --lewisg 13:59, 12 December 2006 (PST)

Australia
Now I'm a US user so I don't really know Australian dates of release. However, I thought I remembered seeing an Australian preview stating that Season 3 was coming in February. The only reason I am stating this is that you were waiting to change the Others' template in order to accomdate Australian viewers. Just thought I'd try to help narrow your search. RE: Quotes
You said: <quote>I was in favour of this, but the behaviour of the more, shall I say "militant" supporters of this really has put me off the idea<endquote>. I am disappointed that the action of these "militant" supporters (I would even go so far as to call one of these so-called supporters a [barely] subtle troll/vandal that was only posting stuff to try and stir up animosity. S/he likely doesn't even care about the quotes) has caused you to change your mind. I don't think you are the only one that is voting negatively based upon the hornet's nest that was stirred by a single individual.
I think I've said enough on the quotes talk page, so I'll likely let others continue the discussion if they feel strongly about it. I'm moving on for now :). BTW, as I mentioned to someone else today, I believe 99% of the people on this site are very constructive, and fun to collaborate with, and this includes you. Best of luck, --Dagg 19:00, 23 January 2007 (PST)
Counterstrike mod
- I don't have Counterstrike, and it sounds like you do... could you do that move, if it's needed? Someone nominated it, saying it is not a true mod, it's a map... I'm not going to double guess that since I don't own it. Thanks! --PandoraX 04:28, 24 January 2007 (PST)
Sky One
- I've heard elsewhere that Sky One has released a broadcast schedule for post-hiatus S3. Is it true that the broadcast is now delayed by only a few days from the US/Canada broadcasts? I'm asking with regard to possibly getting the information up as front page news. I'd also asked nickb123, then remembered you're UK too =) Mahalo. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 10:51, 24 January 2007 (PST)

IRC link
Hi Paul, do you think it would be possible to add a link to IRC in the nav sidebar at MediaWiki:Sidebar? I saw you had removed it and replaced it with a link to the Community Portal, but since then the channel has had very few new users, compared to the higher activity when it was featured in the sidebar. I thought it would be a timely addition before S3 re-commences. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 15:29, 28 January 2007 (PST)
New Squid Proxies
Hi Paul, I noticed that you're online right now... I was wondering how the site loads today compared to previous visits? Even if the site isn't much faster now, it will definitely handle the load much better than without the proxies.
